Grand Bleu De Gascogne
Description
The Grand Bleu de Gascogne is a trail hound, which hunts in a leisurely, methodical manner and possesses a great amount of determination, tremendous endurance, desire, self confidence, sagacity, remarkable scenting ability, a deep, powerful melodious voice, a distinct coat color and an aristocratic form. The head is strong and elongated. The nose is black in color. The foreface is long, strong and slightly tapered. The eyes have visible eyelids and are of a dark chestnut brown color. The ears are attached very low, are thin and well twisted inward, tapering to a point. They reach at least to the tip of the nose and often longer. The chest is well developed in every sense, being long, broad and deep. Deeper than wide, tending to an oval shape, reaching down to the level of the elbows. The back is long, but well supported. The tail is thick, long and carried sickle fashion. The coat is strong and profuse, smooth, not too short, not too fine and weather resistant. The coat colour consists of irregular shaped black patches upon a white background, which is speckled with black.
Height: 62-72cms (24-28inches.)
Weight:

Of even temperament, essentially friendly. Some individuals may be very outgoing, while others are somewhat reserved in nature, but never shy or vicious. Very fine scenting nose, endowed with a sonorous howling voice. Very intent in his way of hunting. Instinctively a pack hound. Calm, obeys orders easily. They have a very loud and clear voice which indicates the distance and location of the hunt. Usually good with children and other animals and likes to be lazy at home, but certainly not when out in the field.
